Colourimetry

Visual aliasing is often alleviated via the use of a prescribed spectral colour filter. This dual iPad colourimetry application enables the examiner to determine if visual aliasing is present and then which colour overlay hue and what saturation is most comfortable for the subject.

Subsequently, the subject’s reading speed and reading errors are evaluated to reveal the effectiveness of a spectral coloured filter. Percentage improvement with colour versus without allows the practitioner to assess the effectiveness of a colour overlay.

Colourimetry scores are not age related however the child must be able to read the chosen words in a sight word (eidetic) manner. The examiner is required to note additions, substitutions, transpositions and omissions. All these will be recorded in the report allowing for assessment of not only speed but accuracy when determining to prescribe a coloured filter. This application can only determine an overlay colour and the result should not be automatically transferred to the spectacle lens. The Wilkins Colorimeter is recommended for this next task.
